Birth Control And The Christian
Within the morality of God, the Bible teaches that God has given every husband and wife the moral right to control the timing of their children's conception.
Children In Family Life: The Bible presents the viewpoint that children were intended by God to be a blessing within married life.

Human Life On A Newly Created Earth: Before Adam and Eve sinned, God announced His generous intentions for what their life on earth would bring to them in the widest sense of individual freedom under the morality of their Creator:
“And God blessed them, and God said unto them, Be fruitful, and multiply, and fill the earth, and subdue it: and have dominion over the fish of the sea, and over the fowl of the air, and over every living thing that moves upon the earth.”
Gen 1:28 David, God's Prophet under the Old Covenant, understood God's intentions for children in the lives of His people:
"Behold, children are a gift of the Lord; The fruit of the womb is a reward." ~ Psalm 127:3
Likewise, the teachings under the New Covenant of Jesus Christ taught that God's people must live within responsible lifestyle choices that would allow
parents to be a blessing
to their children.
"Parents, do not provoke your children to anger, but bring them up in the discipline and instruction of the Lord." ~ Ephesians 6:4 "Birth Control"
Christian Family Planning
Within The Historical Biblical Perspective
At Creation, God instituted human freedom (the moral right) for man and woman to live
within the realities of their intelligence, emotional stability and their physical abilities, freely acted out within the morality of God.
Those rights included the right to control the timing and size of their family.
The Bible, itself, provides no teaching that limits the
freedom to control the
timing of our children's conception (abortion is not controlling the timing of our children's conception, it is taking human life
after it has begun).
The Bible presents to the reader, full support in favor of personal freedom regarding when to produce a family and how many children to bring into one's family.
The false idea that has been asserted from time to time (down through time) by some Christians, is that because God intended children to be a blessing to a husband and wife, it must logically follow that human beings were being
commanded by God to continually produce children. That is not the logic of the scripture and challenges the freedom God gave humanity within this area of living life.
It is an irresponsible idea/teaching.
The Bible student
can know God did
not command that each couple must conceive every child they are biologically able to conceive.
Not only did God give man and woman
personal freedom within the morality of God, He provided Adam and Eve, personal control over
all of His Creation.
"And God created man in His own image, in the image of God He created him; male and female He created them. And God blessed them; and God said to them, 'Be fruitful and multiply, and fill the earth, and subdue it; and rule over the fish of the sea and over the birds of the sky, and over every living thing that moves on the earth.'" ~ Gen 1:27
Inherent within God defining for Mankind what it meant to have been created by God, is that the creation, itself, was to be a blessing to them within a whole view of what it means to be alive (along with being designed male and female).
God blessed their sexual activity not merely their reproductive ability. Sexual activity between a husband and wife is designed by God to be a blessing.
God told both Adam and Eve that they had authority to make personal decisions regarding
everything that God had made, including their own lives (they were part of, "... every living thing.")
The word, "subdue" is a Hebrew word, "Kabash" meaning, "... to tread down, to disregard, to conquer, subjugate, violate, bring into bondage, force, keep, under, subdue, bring into subjection."
Adam and Eve, both, had authority over everything that God had created.
God allowed Mankind to be active in developing and controlling the environment that God had given them.
It was notification of their liberty and safety within God's created universe.
The world after the moral fall of Mankind understood the same thing that we know today, that God did
not charge humanity with a moral obligation to constantly produce children throughout life.
God Speaks To Humanity Through His Word
And Through The Design Expressed By His Creation
"The heavens declare the glory of God; and the firmament shows His handiwork. Day unto day utters speech, and night unto night reveals knowledge. There is no speech nor language where their voice is not heard. Their line has gone out through all the earth, and their words to the end of the world." ~ Psalm 19:1-4
God teaches us that the design processes within His creation are equal to His WORDS to us and helps us understand things that are true against things that are not true.
"For since the creation of the world His invisible attributes are clearly seen, being understood by the things that are made, even His eternal power and Godhead, so that they are without excuse." ~ Romans 1:20 The ceasing of the biological reproductive process of a woman reveals God's provision of liberty from birthing children. Women were
not expected or required to continually produce children throughout their lives.
God's Provision For Reproductive Rights
Are Revealed In The Bodies Of Women God
designed a woman’s body to be available for sexual activity (a time when she
cannot become pregnant) far more days than for purposes of conception!
These biological facts
alone are evidence that God designed sexual activity for physical pleasure and emotional bonding PRIMARILY and secondary to producing children.
A secondary option is only second within "choice" -- not less important when considering value.
Far more human time is allotted (within God’s design) for the human choice regarding sexual expression between husband and wife then for their decision to conceive a child (both activities are BLESSED by God).
A woman is
designed by God
NOT ABLE to conceive at every act of intercourse.
Again: This biological fact (by itself) provides an inherent God-designed "right" to control the timing of our children's "time of conception." There is no passage within scripture that challenges this view.
This biological built-in timing mechanism regarding human reproduction is clear evidence of what God
intended regarding our right to decide
when to conceive a child and how many children we can
responsibly bring into the world.
If reproduction of the human race were the only reason God made Mankind interested in his/her sensuality and sexual experience, God could have designed a woman (in her biology), in such a way, that a husband and wife would have no alternative but to keep conceiving children through his/her life at every act of intercourse (between pregnancies).
The moment a person understands that a woman has a built-in mechanism placed within her body, by God, through which her reproduction
can be controlled, no Christian has a moral right to criticize an alternative contraception method regarding the ability to control the size of families through choosing the time of a child's conception.
Control of the
timing of conception is control of the timing of conception, regardless if we use the built-in biological response to the dropping of the woman's egg or a condom to disallow sperm to reach the egg (ovum).
There is a moral responsibility to have only those children we are able to provide for within the abilities we have to provide economic support for them.
A Christian can know that controlling his/her children's timing of conception falls under Mankind’s right to subdue, to disregard, to subjugate…" to the individual human "will."
The logic of the freedom God provided Mankind to function within and enjoy the universe God had created,
supports this liberty of Mankind within the morality of God.
The false assumption that to act out a choice that interferes with a "biological" process is immoral, is an immoral charge against the God-given liberty of all Christians.
Because the natural world holds forth its wondrous array of functioning in almost limitless magnificence, does in no way disallow Mankind to invent, reorder, manipulate and design machinery and architecture that interferes with the way Man finds things.
It is the logic of God that puts to rest such arrogant assumptions.
Examples of God's logic abound in this area of examination. Man has no natural built-in ability whereby he can fly through the heavens (God did not
design him to fly), but God has given Mankind the right to "disregard" that built-in limiting factor and design, invent or develop ways to by-pass that built-in limiting factor, and fly.
If those who challenge the liberty that God gave Mankind regarding the timing of conception of their children (and the size of their family), are going to live their lives within a consistent logic then it is morally encumbant on them, that they never make use of any man-made vehicle or fly through the sky via any man-made conveyance or work within any industry that goes outside the environment that is "natural."
The open air should be their only home.
Any other invented machine or options of moral living that takes them beyond the biology they were born within (no surgery for them) or the environment in which they are born within would be against their most basic concepts that
require no human interference with any living thing or environment wherein they find themselves.
Within their misdirected logic, they have no moral right to wear clothes.
Within the Christian worldview, the historical facts are that God gave Mankind power over his/her personal environment (family life) and there is no moral directive from God that He did
not include the right to make decisions about family size and the timing of a child's conception (the biological design of the woman's process of conception supports the view of personal liberty in that regard).
The right to limit the size of our family is a God-given right. A human-right based on moral considerations -- as we are to base all personal decisions upon.
Some of the considerations a moral people must weight when making the decision regarding the size of the family, would be: Are we financially able to increase the size of our family without compromising the health, emotional stability or futures of the children we have already brought into the world?
Do we, as parents, have the emotional health to bring more children into our family? Does the husband or the wife have physical disabilities? Do the children already brought into the world have physical or health limitations that take up family resources and time?
There are many personal considerations that each husband and wife must examine carefully before increasing the size of their family.
For that visitor to this web page, who is considering the question -- what is the difference between the right to birth control and the present legal right to abort a baby in the womb, the defining logic is that controlling the time of conception for a baby to be conceived is not the same thing as taking away the life of a baby already conceived.
When God created the universe, He gave humanity the moral right to impact their personal environment through the moral use of their free will and personal creativity and intelligence.
When Mankind fell morally away from His perfect moral Will, God cursed the world because He wanted to rescue them from eternal death.
In spite of this great moral fall away from Him, God allowed men and women to remain free moral agents. In time, God ushered into the world what is known as the Old Covenant by which His people were to live out moral lives until God could send His Son to pay for their sins (in order that all men and women might be saved through faith and willing obedience to His moral Will).
"And having been made perfect, He became to all those who
obey Him the source of eternal salvation," - Hebrews 5:9
When Jesus Christ instituted the New Covenant, He put into place the greatest experience on earth of personal freedom (within the framework of the morality of God) ever known by mankind after the moral fall (a
voluntary submission to His perfect Moral Will).
There is no biblical evidence that a Christian or a group of Christians have a moral right to interfere with another Christian's right to be free except when that freedom becomes license to destroy another's freedom (meaning that we each have been given the right to self-defense).
The New Covenant scriptures are the liberating documents that outline individual freedom for every believer from the time of the institution of the New Covenant, forward.
The Apostles understood this liberty and taught it as a right under the New Covenant: "The faith which you have, have as your own conviction before God. Happy is he who does not condemn himself in what he approves." ~ Romans 14:22

Freedom Under The New Covenant
"Until the oppressors discover that wisdom only just begins with a respectful acknowledgment of The Creator, The Creation, and The Choicemaker, they will be ever learning but never coming to a knowledge of the truth. The rejection of Creator-initiated standards relegates the mind of man to its own primitive, empirical, and delimited devices. It is thus that the human intellect cannot ascend and function at any level higher than the criteria by which it perceives and measures values."
